Medicinal treatments
There are medicinal treatments for both topical (ointments, creams, gels) and systemic (tablets, capsules, drops) administration. These venotherapeutic agents relieve symptoms such as tired, heavy and swollen legs. Chronic administration is necessary because the process will progress if treatment is withdrawn.

The drugs have the effect of stabilising the vessel walls and thus rendering them impermeable. The accumulation of water in the tissues, known as oedema, is demonstrably reduced. This is why these medicaments are classified under the generic term of oedema-protective agents.
